The city of Arezzo
What to see in the city.
Arezzo stands at the confluence of the four valleys that make up its province: Casentino, Valdarno, Val di Chiana, and Valtiberina.
A city with ancient origins, as evidenced by some findings dating back to the Paleolithic era. It was one of the main Etruscan cities, as shown by numerous artworks from that period: the Chimera and the Minerva, preserved in Florence; remains of the necropolis on Poggio del Sole; ceramics, vases, and remarkable artifacts housed in the Archaeological Museum of Arezzo.
During Roman times and the Middle Ages, thanks to its strategic location along the Via Cassia, Arezzo maintained a prestigious and important role in Tuscany.
Today’s city carries the charm of its past, with countless masterpieces by great artists of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, such as Cimabue, Piero della Francesca, Andrea della Robbia, and Giorgio Vasari—works that can be admired in the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, the majestic Cathedral dedicated to San Donato, the medieval churches of San Francesco and San Domenico, the Town Hall and the Palazzo Pretorio, the Palazzo della Fraternità and the Loggias, and the Medici Fortress offering a stunning view over the entire city.
The modern and industrious city is now known worldwide for its goldsmithing expertise, earning it the nickname "city of gold."
Arezzo is rich in events that bring the flavor of the past, such as: the Joust of the Saracen held in June and September, the Antiques Fair held every first Sunday of the month, and the International Polyphonic Competition “Guido d’Arezzo.”
Not only does the city of Arezzo have much to offer visitors, but so does its province, with many beautiful towns and castles: Cortona, Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Poppi.
Let us not forget that the city’s strategic position places it near some of the most beautiful destinations in Tuscany, such as Siena, the Val d’Orcia, and Florence—all easily reachable for those staying at A Point Arezzo Hotel & Resort, located right in front of the Arezzo exit of the A1 highway.
